Sun December 20th: Aukland Day One

Hello Everyone,

Today was our last day on the ship. We got off and got a taxi to a local Kingdom Hall. It was quite a site. Two taxis dropped us off with all our luggage at the gates of the Kingdom Hall which were locked. On op of that it is was raining and the meeting didn't start for another hour (10:15 start time). Fortunately we were in the city so a coffee shop wasnt too far away. We got there and I got some hot cocoa. There were two other guys there kind of watching us. Once one of us pulled out the days text they came over and introduced themselves. They went to a neighboring hall, small world. Guess maybe we shouldn't be surprised we are in the biggest city of New Zealand.

Once we got to the meeting we were warmly greeted. The hall's name was The Central Auckland Congregation. We received honorable mention by George who was the Watchtower conductor. He is an artist and did all the artwork in the kingdom hall. After the meeting we met the two sisters right behind us Helen and Heather. Helen was from Korea. They told us of some sites to see and told us to check out a fish and chips place they really liked called "The Fish Pot" down near the bay, so we are going to try and get down there. We also met a couple Philipino friends who asked to have their picture taken with us, quite flattering :-)

Later we met a bible student by the name of Haiden. He is going to school in the area and has been studying the Bible with a local brother. We also met a sister named Virginia and her younger sister who are both English teachers. Another sister's name was Ashley who did some impressions of different accents for us. They were very good, and very entertaining. She did an American one that was quite good. I never knew our accents could be so stereotyped, lol. One final sister we met was Jessamy who come to find out was Eden's older sister from Dunedin. Very cool to make that connection. We also got to enjoy lunch with all the friends, and hope to meet up with them one more time before we leave. We almost went out in the field with all of them but it began to get to complicated with our luggage and all. I wish we could have.

Here are some pictures for the day. Click Here

Well I will leave it at that for this evening. Have a goodnight everyone!

Danny

  1. Wow, I take a couple days off and I have a ton of reading and pics to catch up on. Sounds like this has been a most amazing and enlightening trip, Danny. I saved some of your pictures to use as desktops. You're not missing much at home. Just single digits weather and arctic blast winds. Oh, and I may have accidently rearranged some of your cupboards on you. That's what happens when I'm cleaning the kitchen and I can't remember where everything goes, so I apologize in advance. I hope you have a safe flight home and all goes smoothly.

PS- Are you and Justin still getting along just as well as before you left the states? lol
